MUSCADINES

Muscadines are a very sought after grape family originating in the South, and

so very easy to grow with little to no spraying. A lot of research is now

progressing on the healing resveratrol element found in the darker varieties.

Though some think of all bronze fruit as scuppernongs, and all purple fruit as muscadines, the term 'muscadine' really  encompasses both the bronze and

purple fruit. Female varieties must be pollinated with a Self-fertile variety. Plant

in full sun at 15-20 ft. apart on strong trellises. Mulch well and water in deeply.

After growth starts, select the strongest shoot and let that grow into the main

trunk up to the trellis wire, pruning off the remaining branches. Our Grape &

Berry Starter Tablets will insure good growth the first year. In late winter, prune

back runners every year to 3-4 buds. Bearing may begin in 1-2 years.
